Character Creation: Bean

It's the last day of September, insert Green Day joke here. I had intended to do a character for Tribe: Humanity's Last Hope, but then I started reading it and realized it's 425 fucking pages and I had to drive my mom around all day, so yeah, we're doing this cutesy thing instead.

The Game: Bean: The D2 Roleplaying Game
The Publisher: Fabled Worlds
Degree of Familiarity: None
Books Required: Just the one

The premise here is simple enough; it's meant to be a game you can play without dice or other accoutrements, as long as you have something that you can use as a D2. It recommends using beans and drawing 1 and 0 on opposite sides, because that would be funny, ignoring that doing so would be far more work than just getting some dice.

But whatever. Using high/low or odd/even as a resolution and counting the number of successes is basically the same thing Ubiquity (of Desolation and Hollow Earth Expedition fame) does, so the system wouldn't be unworkable, just maybe a little simplistic. Let's make a character!

Is there a setting? Not really, just generic "fantasy." Cool, this'll be quick. I pick an archetype (Warrior, Wizard, Rogue). Let's do...rogue, why not. His name is Kallig, but his friends call him...also Kallig, he's far too green to have a nom de guerre.

Body, Mind, and Spirit all get 3 Beans, and then +1 to Mind because I'm a Rogue. I'm therefore skilled in anything Rogues can do, but there's not a list, it's just "you've got thiefy skills." Likewise, I get whatever's reasonable equipment-wise, so yeah, leather armor, a dagger, and a sap for doing guards a clunk

Is there any particular point in considering looks or personality or anything like that? I dunno. I think Kallig is afraid of swamps. He's from a swamp, and when he was a boy he saw a gator drag someone into the water (the dude was a real jerk, don't worry about that, but it was really scary). Kallig got the hell out and went to the city, but like, no magical talent, not beefy enough to be a warrior, guess we're pickin' locks for a living.

That'll do it, I suppose. I'll do a more interesting game next week.
