Just realized I'm a bit behind on these posts, but since today is my first day of summer vacation, I'll have more time for chargen. As opposed to the last two months, where I've been technically working but not actually doing a lot of work.
The Game: vs. Ghosts
The Publisher: Fat Goblin Games (their actual site seems to be down)
Degree of Familiarity: Never played it, but I've seen Ghostbusters and the vsM engine is pretty simple
Books Required: Just the one
I got this game as part of a bundle, I think. It's basically a "hunt down the ghost" game, drawing on Ghostbusters pretty obviously as its focus, much like Spooktacular.
So, starting off, we select a name. Let's call him Dr. Claude Valentine.
Write a bio. Sure! Dr. Valentine has a PhD in psychology and another in parapsychology, with a focus in family planning and relationships. He had a short-lived radio call-in show called Dr. Valentine's Love Clinic, but he kinda lost it on air one day after the 85th relationship problem that basically cooked down to "you fuckers need to talk to each other." Falling back on the "para" part of his education, he started studying how romantic relationships lead to powerful and pissed of ghosts, and here we are.
Choose Attributes. I've got six, and I can rate the 6, 4, 4, 3, 3. Well, I don't see Claude as much of a combatant, so I'll put the 6 in Mental, the 4s in Physical and Investigation, and the 3s in Offense and Defense.
Choose Gimmicks. Usual drill; for every good one I take, I need a bad one. I find it easier to pick the bad ones first. Oh, well, I think I'll take Too Old for this Crap, which reduces Offense, Defense, and Physical by one but pumps Investigation up to 5 and Mental to 9! I'll also take Stubborn.
And then for Good Gimmicks, I'll take Charming (I get an extra card for social actions) and I Know a Guy (my agent, Bernie; he's a pain in the ass but he knows everybody).
I start with 10 Health. Everything else is just a personality trait or description. Dr. Valentine is what you might call "avuncular." He likes sweater vests and slacks, jeans for the weekends. He's got gray hair that refuses to thin, but also refuses to behave. He's a got a soothing, pleasant voice (great for radio, and also for talking down angry spectres). He doesn't suffer fools gladly, though, and he's got a bit of a temper, it just takes a long time to wind him up.
And that's it!
